So Far Away by Cap’n Swing
It’s not too clear to me just why I came, I guess it doesn’t really matter
The fact remains that I’m still insane over you
The summer breeze is singing in your ear, it leaves you feeling so mellow
Then just remembering mascara tears, just for once you are between
So far apart, so far apart, so far apart, so far apart
It’s running tired and I’m getting late, I stand here mumbling by your frozen gate
Sometimes I wish you would disintegrate but I know you’re not the type
In every movement that you do so free you send out swooning epitome
of what it might be like to ride by the sea and sail so far away
So far away, so far away, so far away, so far away
The summer breeze is singing in your ear, it leaves you feeling so mellow
Then just remembering mascara tears, just for once you are between
It’s running tired and I’m getting late, I stand here mumbling by your frozen gate
Sometimes I wish you would disintegrate but I know you’re not the type
So far away, so far away, so far away, (lookin for you) so far away, (everyday)
So far away, (yes we do baby) so far away, so far away, so far away
Love this song. Its raw but heartfelt.Lyrics by Ric???

“In every movement that you do so free you send out swooning epitome” I just love the way Ben sings
“epitome”. Ugh! So great!!!
Also, I love that you used the Rock Goes to College Ben. The Edgy hard core Ben. (not that Ben’s bass playing during Take What You Want at Musicladen wasn’t hardcore – it was – Oh how I adore him)
It is remarkable to me how we can (I am sure I have said this before, but it is worth repeating) see over the course of three European performances a different Ben (not in all ways of course) in each. This emphasized how the mood of the band, how they wanted to come off, and the way that context matters. The traveling they did that day, the experiences they had that day or the night before in France, Germany and England.
How hung over they were haha. I seem to recall Donna in one of your posts, I think it was for Musikladen that they were hung over but you couldn’t tell.
I am writing this after, for me personally social distancing for 9 days, So Far Apart is quite apt.
I will say that Ben has been a blessing for me. When I begin to be overwhelmed by the situation we are in right now, I just imagine Benjamin being here with me, and I see his face in my mind’s eye and I am comforted.
I have not been on Facebook at all, but for one moment when I did go on,I saw a post of Ben again the Rock Goes to College still image but him singing “She said, leave it me, everything will be alright.”
Yes, I believe you Benjamin!!!

Beautiful comment. Also, I too wonder what his opinion would be on this mess we are as a whole dealing with.

Oh wow! Everyday I find some song by The Cars I have never heard before on this blog. You really have gone to great lengths to bring us music that otherwise we would probably never even know about.
So this song reminds me of Fleetwood Mac on their Mystery To Me Album, before Buckingham/Nicks joined them. This was when Bob Welch was in the group and they had a more jazzy sound.
I really like it but I haven’t yet listened to it with my headphones so my like could increase exponentially. 😚

You are in for a great trip of discovery here on Donna’s most excellent blog. Enjoy!
Another song that comes to my mind is the melody for the verses in Electric Light Orchestra’s “Evil Woman”

SPJ, I’ve said it before but I have been a fan of The Cars & Ben’s since I was like 7 LOL this is like 1978 when my sister who is 5 years older got their first album. She was a big fan of theirs & him as well! Anyways, I’m very glad to see others here who appreciate their music and Ben. I’m really happy that you started this blog because I learn something new every time I read a post or re-read a post from the archive. Even after reading the book by Joe-which was fantastic-I learned things I never knew. I enjoy the podcasts also especially Judith’s.
TY to SPJ & all who comment. I appreciate that I have a place that I can get my fan girl on with my favorite eye candy. LOL! Seriously though, Ben was more than eye candy…he was extremely talented & from all I’ve read & heard he was a really down to earth person with normal issues like everyone else. He wasn’t perfect. No one is.
His music touches me like no other. There’s something about him that is so beautiful. He was a gentle soul. His passing was truly sad. We at least have this blog to share how much his music meant to us & I think Ben being such a wonderful musician who was a sincerely humble & modest human being is his greatest legacy. People are are lucky to have known him. They’re not too many like him these days.

You know, it’s so gratifying to me that this blog has made a connection with other fans. I started it because my love for Ben was a bit overwhelming to me, and this became my way of processing it all. It makes me so happy that others feel the way I do about him and are willing to share their feelings here. He was an amazing person – faults and all – on so many levels. ❤
