Do you think about Ben a lot? “He was certainly my closest friend. He was in every band I ever had. It was a pretty close relationship. He crosses my mind a lot. I certainly see pictures of him around or I hear his voice.

“It’s funny, for some of these re-release things we would find some alternative cuts or things. I’d find demos or recordings where Ben and I played acoustically at Cambridge, Massachusetts, those clubs around Harvard. It was just him and I. They were kind of great. Every time I heard him sing on anything, whether it was a demo or a living room, it always sounded amazing. I could never get over how great his voice was, at least to me.

“So yeah, I think about him. Unfortunately, there were a lot of artists I was close to we lost in the past couple of years, Alan Vega and a bunch … I guess time rolls on.” ~ Ric Ocasek, Rolling Stone Magazine, December 17, 2017.

  1. Its comments like that from Ric that bring tears to my eyes the most. Their relationship was so very special, the perfect partnership. I think my tears are mostly for the precious time lost because of the differences they couldn’t get past at the time. All the amazing music we didn’t get from them. We all can agree with Ric, Ben’s voice was amazing, and what we do have from them is gold. Maybe some day we’ll get to hear those recordings of just Ric and Ben, if Ric maybe wrote down that it was his wish to his family that they be shared with all the millions of Car’s fans, we can hope.

    1. Dear B B,
That would also be on my wish list and also that somehow all video footage that must exist somewhere also gets released.
Thank you to dear Donna for this. What a sad week it has been, lack of sleep made it so difficult to finish a tribute video I started the day I found out about Ric’s death.
      Love to you all,

      Tia

  2. Dear Donna
Thank you to dear Donna for this. What a sad week it has been, lack of sleep made it so difficult to finish a tribute video I started the day I found out about Ric’s death. I chose Since You’re Gone for the title but more so because I knew that Benjamin said this ( besides being ” partial” to “Drive”) was one of his favourite songs from The Cars.
That these demos would be released is on my wish list and also that somehow all video footage that must exist somewhere also gets released.

This is my tribute to not only Ric but to Benjamin as well, 2 old friends RIP

    Love to you all,

    Tia
