Quoting Benjamin

On his feelings about The Lace: “I did the absolute best I could possibly do under the circumstances. I’m happy with what I have, but it makes me personally cringe when I don’t hear exactly [what I wanted]. Probably no one else would notice except myself and a few other people. It won’t happen like that again. It took me much too long to do this project. I wasn’t thrilled about some of the things that went on [referring to recording in England]. I’m real glad it’s over.” — “The Rewards of Rock Stardom” by Jim Sullivan, The Boston Globe, November 1, 1986

  1. All we hear is the awesome Benjamin, who we wish had been singing live to us personally! I will never forget the first time I heard Stay the Night, loved the song, and then POW! SAW. THE. MAN! It only got better when I saw that video and then (stopping to fan myself) I saw the video for Too Hot to Stop. OMG – he took my breath away! I never knew who he was until he was 40 (I was 20) and I never knew he sang in The Cars until I was in my 40’s. So as late to the party as I was, I was glad to finally arrive. Although I cannot remember how I lucked into finding Donna’s site, I am grateful I did. I always enjoy some new nugget about Benjamin. I am not really one to get all worked up about a celebrity, but Gene Kelly and Benjamin Orr were two of the most stunningly handsome and talented men that have ever existed.

    1. I’m so glad you found me, too! Thank you for commenting — you are so right. Our love for Benjamin ensures that we hear the best of him, not whatever flaws he would notice. It is a little sad, though, that he felt the album was less than he wanted it to be. It’s too bad he wasn’t able to get the second album released; he may have been more satisfied with the finished product.

  2. I always loved Ben, but lately it seems to grow more and more each day as I learn more about him. Oh how I wish he had made a second album. From what I’ve heard, it would have surpassed the first. DYKWIFL, I Am, and Even Angels Fall are just a few of the brilliant songs that would have be on it. A tremendous loss for us. I wonder if he ever had a clue about how many true fans he had?
