I remember hearing an interview or reading about Ric Ocasek talking about this song. It was originally Why don’t you go away, he thought it sounded too abrupt that people would take it as Why don’t you go away!!So he changed it to Why don’t we go away…… But if you read the lyrics I think Why don’t you go away… fits much better with the concept of the song… As I take it that Why don’t you go away… as meaning he can’t get that person out of his head , she’s in his every thought what ever he’s doing. Where as , Why don’t we go away is a completely different meaning of going away together and fulfilling those fantasies. I thought that quite aninteresting change in a word of a song, As it’s a different meaning completely to his original meaning….Interesting to have the back story on it….
