“Ben was the better singer, the more melodic. Ric had his stylized quirky thing going. But especially early on, people used to say they couldn’t tell ’em apart, especially on the first couple of albums.” — Greg Hawkes, Best Classic Bands, published April 12, 2018

  1. From the first time hearing “Let’s Go” I could ALWAYS tell them apart and always feel slightly shocked when some fans mention that they did not know there were 2 singers or worse they did not know who Benjamin was…… Once seen and heard to me to me it was unlikely for anyone to forget Ben’s voice, with its distinctive sound, tonal quality, delivery, (he had a special way of enunciating certain words ), style and of course then there was his performance style which was so different from Ric’s and let’s not forget his incredible charisma looks and magnetism.
Strange, isn’t it how different people hear or perceive things. Yes, I know I am “Benjaholic” and totally biased 😉

      1. I think we could be half asleep and pick it out instantly sis ❤ I mean WHAT A VOICE 😀
I sometimes hear his songs in my dreams and dreamed of material that sadly does not exist. But it sounded wonderful 😉

  2. I just wanted to say a big thank you for this site. I recently rediscovered the Cars, which led me to their live performances on YouTube, which led me to Ben, and now here I am spending way too much time on my new obsession and amost finished with the biography. Looking forward to going through all the great stuff here and having a place to process all the feelings I’ve been feeling : )

    1. Thank you so much! I’m glad you found me (here and on FB ❤ ). That's the thing about Ben: once he gets a hold on you it goes deep. That's the whole reason I started this blog… to be able to process the impact he had/has on me. Feel free to comment and share your journey as much as you like! So great to meet you, Georgina. ❤

  3. I really never get people who say they sound alike and they can’t tell them apart, IMO they sound NOTHING alike. I never though they were the same person. They just sound totally different. I think it’s just people’s minds tricking them. It is assumed there is ONE singer in a group(which is weird, there were multiple singers in the Beatles, multiple singers in the Beach Boys, multiple singers in KISS for goodness sake) and so they just assume the voice is the same person, no matter how different it sounds(well i mean within reason, if one was a bass and the other an alto tenor I want to assume even the most dense listener would get the hint the singers were different people LOL).

It’s just mind boggling to me that anyone could hear Just What I Needed and Let the Good Times Roll and think they were the same singer.
